Stop Domestic Violence Against Men

The impression the society holds for a man is that, Men are strong, Men do not cry, men are the heads of the family, a woman cannot beat a man etc is absolutely wrong.

The Ugandan gender based laws tend to have bias towards men by focusing and directly protecting the plight of Women and girls as per the 1995 Ugandan Constitution, the ministry of gender labour and social development that is charged with the responsibility of handling gender related issues has a bias towards men and that is how it is termed as “Ministry of Women” all most all NGOs support and fight for children and women rights hence masculinity is the only defender of men in Uganda.

The Civil Society’s has been and still is majorly focused on plight of women and girls in Uganda, there is no single Civil Society/Non Governmental Organization (NGO) that work to help the men and boys regarding similar occurrences of domestic violence. The women plight is over rated yet at the helm of it all men equally suffer the same or even worse.

Biblically women are supposed to be submissive to their husbands and husbands are supposed to provide for their wives, this has greatly changed with the coming of gender equality. Women emancipation has changed the way women think, act and behave towards their male counterparts. The notion that all women are weak is equally not true because there are some women who are more powerful than some men in all aspects of life that is, physically, economically, politically and in a domestic set up. Women have become bread winners in some instances leading to tendency of men forget their position and responsibilities at home brought about by economic hardships and changing global trends, some women partially think men are useless in society because of the increased women emancipation, women in power and money that has threatened manhood leading to conflicts.

Whereas women who experience domestic violence are openly encouraged to report to the authorities; it has been argued that men who experience such violence often encounter pressure against reporting. Men who report to the authorities face social stigma regarding their perceived lack of machismo and other denigration of their masculinity. Intimate partner violence against men is generally less recognized by society than intimate partner violence against women, which act as barrier to men reporting their situation. Therefore, there is a need to break the silence.

According to Uganda Police Child and Family Protection Unit/Department (CFPU), few brave men report cases of domestic violence and can agree to speak about it; it’s a rare opportunity to find, a controversial and deeply taboo issue. About one or two cases can be reported in a mouth. However, in Uganda, survivors of sexual violence are at a risk of arrest by police, as they are likely to assume that they are gay, a crime in this country and in 38 0f the 53 African nations.

Men are willing to talk, for instance, Dr Chris Dolan, Refugee Law Project (RLP’s) British director, first heard of wartime sexual violence against man in the late 1990s while researching his PhD in northern Uganda, and he sensed that the problem might be dramatically underestimated. Keen to gain a fuller grasp of its depth and nature, he put up posters throughout Kampala in June 2009 announcing a “workshop on the issue in the local school. On the day, 150 men arrived. In a burst of candor, one attendee admitted. It’s happened to all of us here.” It soon became known among Uganda’s 200,000 strong refugee populations that the RLP were helping men who had been raped during conflict. Slowly, more victims began to come forward.

Research shows that women past experiences has a lot to do with violence tendency against men as a result of trauma from rape, disappointments, poor role models etc. but still, Society and cultural aspects that moulds an African man to be tough with a sense of authority makes women inferior and want to fight back. For long, the society and cultures has regarded men to be tough with sense of authority and that can defend and tend for themselves leading woman quest to fight back. This coupled with increased women emancipation and empowerment, amplified the desire for power, authority and financial muscle has guided them to demand for right of equality that has caused tension. Men have become more vulnerable and prone today to domestic violence

Therefore, Is Violence against men same as women? This idea reveals how much pertinent and salient this issue is in our society. In some cases, it goes to extremes of taking away someone’s life for instance, the circumstances that led to the death of Major General James Bananukye Kazini on Tuesday morning of November 10th 2009 after a night out with his girl friend, Lydia Draru a.k.a. Lydia Atim Draru.

The society cannot live in denial that female violence towards men in a domestic setting does occur, however, the Government and the majority of society focus only on men as perpetrators of violence towards women, do not believe or want to recognize that men can suffer from domestic violence in the same way as women. Why are there no laws covering violence against men, why do we know so little about this, and why the civil society only focus their entire efforts on female victims of domestic violence?

the objectives are;
• To create awareness on gender based violence against men in the community
• To discover why there is domestic violence against men
• To lobby policy makers to put laws in place that protect men
• To know why there is silence and why there is domestic violence against men
• To encourage men to speak out on gender based violence
• To encourage civil society to voice out men plea of suffering from domestic violence
• To advocate for a collective voice of men in society.

Domestic violence is a sensitive area of study hence extra care must be taken not to cause harm to others.

Amama Mbabazi has let LOOSE

Posted on Updated on

Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has finally opened up, stating that he will be running for presidency in the 2016 general elections, but first through the NRM party.

King of Scandals

“You’ll be making a choice for your families, your children, and the generations to come. A new age is upon us, and upon this, our focus must rest. Yesterday is gone, and today’s challenges must have newer, better answers. Uganda can work, together let us make it work,” Amama said.

Patrick Amama Mbabazi was the Prime Minister of Uganda from 24 May 2011 to 19 September 2014. Prior to this position, he served as the Minister for Security in the Ugandan Cabinet from February 2009 to May 2011.

However, I never knew Uganda as a country would be in position to replace the kind of RIP. Baale Francis but Amama Mbabazi has nailed it.

He is such a composed number one gentleman in Uganda, so smart that a few can challenge him in that field of public speaking.

UBC should immediately offer him a job to anchor news at their station. to be precise that is why i think Museveni is still the best candidate to date and He will win the elections with a big margin.

Amama … the dream why now… just retire and we shall honor you with grace

welcome to the world of dirtiness and get ready to mingle in the mud

Best

CAMPUS FM 107 IS STILL CLOSED

Posted on Updated on

It has been 10 years from 2005 since Campus Fm was closed.

Campus fm lost its frequency to a Kitintale based Christian Radio Salt FM 107 on grounds that Makerere University was not remitting its license fees of about 3 million shilling a year. This has accumulated over the years to a tune of about 30 million shillings to date.

Uganda Communication Commission reached a decision to close it because Makerere University had been given a commercial frequency 107 FM.

However UCC, made a “U” turn on the Campus fm and sold the frequency to Kitintale base Salt fm. Students also think that the radio was closed due to political reasons with a fear that students would use it for political mobilization and also production of audio that would be used or sold else where.

Salt fmToday, the Multi media lab is reduced to merely a computer lab only. This in various ways has greatly affected students majoring in Journalism with a bias in Radio production. The intent of the multi media has also changed focus from its original purpose because, most computers are not functioning, a few that are working are competing with high number of students enrolled.

The department together with the University administration should quickly resolve this and save the future of these would be best radio presenters and producers.

Gen. David Sejjusa Returns

Posted on Updated on

Gen. David Sejjusa arrived in the country shortly before a quarter past 3am. He then moved to the VIP lounge where he was received by the Director ISO, Brig. Ronnie Barya, his sister and lawyer Rwakafuzi as his legal representative.

Aboard a delayed British Airways plane, David Ssejusa aka Tinyefuza, who unexpectedly returned from exile in the UK Sunday morning, is set to ask the army to formalize his retirement from the army according to his lawyer.

Government is not considering any charges against Gen. and according to both his lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuzi, and Media Centre Director, Ofwono Opondo, Ssejusa is a freeman and did not commit any crime.

It has been one year and eight months that the former coordinator of intelligence services Gen. David Ssejjusa has spent in exile in the UK, doing what he called efforts to change the regime in Kampala.

Addressing the press Sunday morning, his legal representative Ladislaus Rwakafuzi opens up on how Gen. Tinyefunza successfully returned back home.

In a surprise move, government says Gen. Ssejusa will not be charged for alleging an assassination plot of key government officials by both IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura and President Museveni’s brother, Salim Saleh.

Afraid that some people could be after his life, president Museveni has reportedly ordered for his protection. It is even alleged that even his ticket was secured

Gen. Ssejjusa drove directly to his family home in Ssembabule district where he was received by family and friends.

HIV POSTIVE PEOPLE TO BE TATTOOED ON THEIR PRIVATE PARTS – JACOB ZUMA

Posted on Updated on

President Zuma signed a bill that seems to be one of the greatest steps in the history of trying to combat HIV.

President Jacob Zuma
President Jacob Zuma

Jacob Zuma after signing the bill,said ;

The mark is to protect those who can’t say no to sex. “I mean if you can’t read between the lines you should read between the legs because that’s where the status would be tatted. The choice to be HIV positive is now in your hands or your genitals for that matter….” We also encourage those who had been living with the virus to go to the nearest public hospitals to get their status tatted in.

However, some students at Makerere University do think that this kind of Law stigmatizes the people living with HIV. According to Grace Amme, people have choices and should not be treated like animals, they have a choice to abstain, to use a condom etc there are so many options.

Tattooed HIV Positive person
Tattooed HIV Positive person

This alone in-dignifies human rights, imagine the psychological torture you may have if your husband came back home with a tattoo “HIV +” how would you feel?

Zuma who is reported to to have volunteered to be the first South African citizen to get his HIV status tatted near his genitals, however  announced that only the first 10 million people (who already tested positive) to volunteer to have their HIV statuses tatted on their genitals would be given the money in form of a funeral expense voucher.

Doreen Nasasira thinks if one needed to have a tattoo at will then it would be fine but not a mandatory thing and what if someone was born HIV positive, what would happen to such individuals? It was not in their liking! I don’t support it. But I also think it will help reduce on the risk of getting HIV especially for those who do not want to reveal their sero-status yet they keep infecting unsuspecting young people.

fundamental human rights and liberty is every humans joy and these should be enjoyed freely by every person regardless of Race, Color, age, disability etc. a mere wishful thought of one individual that may not be practical should never infringe on peoples human rights especially those living with HIV.

South Africa has the world’s highest HIV caseload and premature deaths of 300,000 people. The government is distributing life-prolonging anti-retroviral drugs to people infected with the virus.

Vanguard adds that in 2006, Zuma faced charges of raping an HIV-positive family friend, and was ridiculed for testifying that he took a shower after sex to lower the risk of infection with HIV. His determination to help millions South Africans infected with HIV and around 60,000 babies born HIV infected each year.

“Let there be no more shame, no more blame, no more discrimination and no more stigm. Let the politicisation and endless debates about HIV and AIDS stop,” Zuma noted.

A Dad Spends $39,000 on a 3-Year-Old Daughter’s Birthday Party

Eric Lembo and Trang Nguyen paid almost $39,000 for their daughter’s Disney-themed third birthday party.

A father is defending his decision to throw his daughter a nearly $39,000 third birthday party after critics said the affair was unnecessarily extravagant.

Eric Lembo and Trang Nguyen, parents in Perth, Australia, threw their daughter, Lauren, a 220-person birthday party last week, according to the Perth Now Sunday Times. “The day wasn’t all about the money,” Lembo said Tuesday, answering those who called the fete “wasteful”  and “vulgar.”

The Disney-themed soiree included entertainment from a formerAustralian Idol contestant, a balloon artist, photo booth, children’s high tea, and a menu the included tempura scallops, truffle arancini, pork belly, cognac and a Disney cake. BD2Minnie and Mickey Mouse walked around greeting guests. The lavish event, which was held at the reception venue owned by Lembo, had a price tag of $48,195 Australian dollars, according to the paper, which is just about $39,000 USD.

The lavish party included Lauren’s name in lights, an oyster bar, tempura scallops, and entertainment from an Australian Idol contestant.

Lembo told Perth Now. “It has really become a party not just for Lauren but for all of my family and friends to get together. That’s very important to me.” Not surprisingly, little Lauren loved her party. “She thought it was amazing,” Lembo said. “Her face lit up. ”

Eric Lembo plans to throw a similarly extravagant party for Lauren’s fourth birthday.

But comments on the article on and Perth Now’s Facebook page, where the article was shared 324 times and got nearly 2,500 comments, were less impressed. “Even if it cost him a fight of that it is still obscene for a three year old. Or a ten year old. Or a 16 year old,” wrote a commenter named Eric. “They are setting this child up to be a spoiled brat.” Another commenter, Val, wrote: “Imagine how many blankets and meal this would have brought for families in need and the homeless.” And from Vicki: “What a waste of money! Imagine how much food that could buy for people who are starving hungry and have no roof over their heads. That party was not about their child so much as it was about the parents grandstanding. Shameful display of materialism.”

BD4Some critics said Eric Lembo should have donated the money he spent on the party to charity.

Lembo shot back at his critics on Tuesday, defending his decision and saying that he plans to throw another lavish party for Lauren’s fourth birthday. He told Perth Now that the event was about friends, family, and marketing his event space, not just the price tag. He also said he regularly donates to charity – including footing the bill for a terminally ill cancer patient’s wedding and donating $1,000 lunch vouchers to charity auctions – and that he was proud to be helping the local economy with his pricey party. “One of the comments was that we should send our daughter to a refugee camp so that she can learn the value of money,” Lembo told Perth Now. “That’s very funny because Trang and her whole family came to Australia from a refugee camp.”

Lembo has plenty of supporters on Facebook as well. “Still a ridiculous amount of money for a child’s birthday party. But, perhaps if we all had money to burn, we’d do the same thing, who knows? Least he is a present father, that clearly loves his child,” wrote one named Cara. Added Ngaroma, “Stop being judgmental… Their child, their money however they want to spend it.. Good on them.”

As for next year, Lembo says he can’t wait for Lauren’s big day. “I am going to inject more money back into the community next year, for Lauren’s fourth birthday.”

Meanwhile in Uganda, a one Peter Okello Gideon’s Birthday party did not even cost $500.

Peter Okello Gideon

As simple as a token of face book birthday wishes, a couple of phone calls and a few friends and family giving in some small gifts. but the most interesting bit is my age difference that is 3 (three) to which i also added another 3 but at a manageable cost.

I thank God for this opportunity to be able to compete with is three year old and being defeated. one day i will overcome all these odds and also throw a $50,000 USD birthday party that is still in my bed but i swear the day i will wake up, wash my face and shake my big-small head and realize that i am a man and i should stop dreaming, then the world would know how tough i am.

over the years no body has ever complained about who and how they spend their money on their family and friends.

however today, trends have changed that has seen people not working very hard but rather smart. with the likes of Micheal Ezra, Geoffrey Kazinda, Amama Mbabazi and Sam Kutesa etc it is equally possible that if i became their adopted son all these dreams will be realized.

Peter Okello's Birthday

i promise from today i will not go to sleep neither will i fall a sleep. this is to make my dreams come ture because if i sleep, i will wake up and find nothing.

my future solely depends on my dreams so am going to sleep good night

Pictures or Words… what works for you?

Morning

Just like the eyes, the camera lens brings me unending joy, happiness and excitements.

Pictures make me happier because I can see it in different angle, give it a deep though before I make up my mind and then lastly try to make use and analysis of it.

Take a look at this one and only describe it using one word which I know is just not enough but simply try. Pictures depicts inner thoughts,

Kidz pregieWhether expressed vocally, in a letter, or through someone else, words mean a lot and so do pictures. Just like we learn how to encourage the special person in your life through words of affirmation, the same can be done using simple pictures.

As photos or pictures are vital in expressing our emotions, words are important to everyone, yet for some people they are more than important- they are essential for emotional health and wellness.

We all feel loved in different ways.

So what works for you… is it words or simply pictures?
